What SEO Alumni and Mentors think you should be prepared to talk about from the Financial Times in Preparation for an Investment Banking Division Interview (General, M&A, Leveraged Finance, Securitisation, Structured Debt, Structured

Corporate Finance / M&A
IBD Name and discuss any recent big transactions (especially if the interviewing bank is involved)
Corporate Finance / M&A IBD What is happening in M&A
Corporate Finance / M&A IBD What has been covered in any articles on the bank(s) (SEO Sponsor firms or banks to which you are applying directly)
Corporate Finance / M&A IBD What is the current  economic client…(price of oil, interest rates, etc.)
Investment Banking Division IBD They should read about the news that are currently happening in the market, and be prepared to give opinions and forecast of the trend.  They also need to know the deals that the company is involving or has done in the past if they apply for the investment banking roles.
Leveraged Finance  IBD Be able to discuss a relevant deal in the market - what is interesting about it and give as many facts about it as possible.  Discuss why it is similar/dissimilar to other deals in the market
Leveraged Finance  IBD Discussion of general economic environment and outlook for interest rates is a minimum; ability to discuss what is happening in the capital markets is a big plus (could be up to candidate - eg prepare a response to the question "tell me about an interesting article you have read about trends in the capital markets...."
Securitisation / Structured debt IBD I work in securitisation / structured debt, which is quite esoteric, so I would not expect a lot of product specific knowlege from them from the FT. however, we would like them to be able to discuss macro view on rates (both UK and european), bond yields, asset backed securities and collateralised default swaps (CDS) and collateralised debt obligations (CDOs) in very general terms. We just want to see a grasp of how our market sits within the wider financial markets.
Structured Finance Analytics IBD Anything to do with the US dollar, interest rates and big M&A activity.
